Savings Tips

Wow, what a winter so far! First the Polar Vortex, then a crazy snow storm! We have experienced more cold days in January this year than in recent history. I realize some of you may be concerned about your natural gas bills this winter. While you are probably receiving a great per therm rate from FireSide, I expect usages to be above average for the winter months of 2014. In an effort to help you conserve natural gas, I thought I would go over a few tips that can help lower your gas bill. These tips and more energy saving tools can be found on Atlanta Gas Light’s website, www.aglc.com.
  • Lower the temperature setting on your water heater to 12
    0 degrees.
  • Keep your thermostat set at 68° or lower during the winter months and if possible, lower the thermostat by a few degrees when no one is home.
  • Add insulation in your attic.
  • Install a programmable thermostat to automatically adjust the temperature each day.
  • Clean or replace all filters at least once per month.
  • Have the system inspected and maintained regularly.
  • Keep heating and return vents free of all obstructions for proper airflow.
