Wow, what a winter so far! First the Polar Vortex, then a crazy snow storm! We have experienced more cold days in January this year than in recent history. I realize some of you may be concerned about your natural gas bills this winter. While you are probably receiving a great per therm rate from FireSide, I expect usages to be above average for the winter months of 2014. In an effort to help you conserve natural gas, I thought I would go over a few tips that can help lower your gas bill. These tips and more energy saving tools can be found on Atlanta Gas Light’s website, www.aglc.com. Lower the temperature setting on your water heater to 12 0 degrees. Keep your thermostat set at 68° or lower during the winter months and if possible, lower the thermostat by a few degrees when no one is home. Add insulation in your attic. Install a programmable thermostat to automatically adjust the temperature each day. Clean or replace all filters at least once per month. Have the system inspected and maintained regularly. Keep heating and return vents free of all obstructions for proper airflow. For more great tips, check out the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Savers site.
